Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU), University of Southampton

The Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU) operates as an applied research and enterprise unit within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. We have over 25 years of experience in providing clinical research solutions and services across the globe, advancing data excellence, quality, management, and improving research conduct. CIRU works across the 7 continents including Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, Australasia, Asia, and Africa.

Aims

  • Undertake applied research in software development, data modelling and definitions, and develop terminology and standards

  • Provide software and services to those engaged in clinical research to both improve quality and effectiveness, and drive new research questions within research data management

  • Deliver healthcare innovation through informatics solutions.

ISO 27001 Certification

The Clinical Informatics Research Unit is certified in an international information security management system (ISMS) standard called Information Security Management System (ISO 27001). The standard provides a framework for organisations to manage their information security and protect their data. Achieving ISO 27001 builds trust with our clients and demonstrates our Unit’s commitment in securing confidential information. The certification has been recognised by BSI.

CIRU has gained recognition through a number of awards, including the Lloyds Bank Business ‘Data Excellence’ award and the ACDM (Association for Clinical Data Management) ‘Innovation in the Management of Clinical Data’ award.
