IBRN shortlisted for VC Award
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE IBRN TEAM
We are delighted to share that the IBRN have been shortlisted for the University of Southampton’s (UoS) VC Awards 2024. The annual Vice-Chancellor’s awards celebrate the extraordinary contributions and achievements of colleagues working at UoS. This year there has been a record number of nominations, so it is a fantastic achievement that the IBRN team have been shortlisted.
The IBRN (International Blast Injury Research Network) is an affiliation of the Clinical Informatics Research Unit and was launched back in 2019 in collaboration with the University of Cape Town. They identified that leading blast research was primarily focussed on military, not civilian, situations and perspectives. Addressing this gap, they brought together the multidisciplinary IBRN team to improve research within the civilian context and at a holistic level. The team conducts multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral research to improve the understanding of the consequences of explosive violence on civilians. They aim to improve the protection and treatment of those injured by explosive violence, inform risk reduction strategies, and minimise harm and suffering of affected populations.
The team from CIRU comprising of Professor James Batchelor, Dr Rebecca Brown, Dr Ken Brackstone, all from the Faculty of Medicine, along with Dr Jack Denny, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, have been shortlisted for the Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise category. This award is for those who demonstrate knowledge exchange and enterprise activities that result in positive societal, economic, and environmental impact. The team have been invited to attend the awards ceremony in October at St Mary’s Stadium, in which the winners will be announced, so we wish them the best of luck!
