CIRU front page news

Our unit was recently featured on the front page of The Observer newspaper. Dr Michael Head from our RESIN team spoke to the paper about ongoing CIRU-led research that is using the EDGE database to assess the impact of COVID-19 upon research in the NHS. Including the findings that at the start of the year there were over 15,000 research studies taking place in the UK. Now, 60% of these had to be paused or suspended due to COVID-19, which works out about 9,000 studies. Dr Head also included the stat of 10% of clinical trials - around 1,500 in total had to be stopped altogether from the pandemic. The full online article is on The Guardian website.
