New CIRU members
CIRU Director Professor James Batchelor has recently started a new position as Co-director with Prof Jo Nurse in the UK for the Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health. The commonwealth centre has been setup to support cross commonwealth collaboration and coordination of digital/eHealth work to help support the benefits that this digital platform can bring in the support of delivering health systems. The centre is designed to deliver a number of pillars both technical, educational and knowledge based. Both James and Jo are international advisors for the programmes work and the hub is initially providing placements for 12 months for 7 Digital Health clinically trained fellows from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is unique in the sense that it has had the foresight to see the importance of digital as a subspecialty within medicine. These fellows are working within our unit to learn about the use of digital technologies and approaches within the NHS. This will allow them to go back to Sri Lanka with new skills and experiences before taking up Medical Consultant posts with the Health system in hospitals, Clinics and the Ministry of Health.
